Luv2Swim founders John and Shelly are a husband and wife team with a young family and they Luv2Swim! Their ‘lightbulb’ moment  came on the longest day of the year while they were out walking with their children. They had an idea to build an endless swimming pool and start teaching swim lessons and do swim video analysis in their own private facility.

It was a solution to a problem they had heard many times over the years, people’s anxiety about coming into an overcrowded, noisy, large pool environment. They knew a pool with a Fastlane Pro unit from Endless Pools in a private setting was the answer and so their story began.

John Newell

Director, Founder and Head Swim Teacher

John is our head swim teacher and is qualified with Level 1 and Level 2 Swim Ireland Teaching Aquatics qualification. He has been a  full time six day a week swimming teacher for various clubs in Galway, teaching children and adults Groups, 1 : 1’s, 2 : 1’s and 3 : 1’s with confidence for over 8 years. Whatever the issue you can be sure John has dealt with it before . Being a father of 2 young girls he understands that patience is key when teaching young children to swim and making each session fun and enjoyable. John finds it extremely rewarding to help adults overcome their fear of the water and see them progress and master their technique by working with the water and not against it! He understands the frustration with triathletes and long distance swimmers when trying to perfect their technique to achieve their goals as John competed in various triathlons and long distance swims like the 13km Galway Bay swim in 2019 which he did as a solo swimmer and BestFest Swim festival in Mallorca competing in a 5km, 3.8km, 2.5km, 3km and 10km all in one week!

Shelly Newell

Founder, Director and Manager

Shelly manages the daily running of Luv2Swim and has over 14 years experience in the leisure industry. She holds a degree in commerce and HR, is qualified with Level 1 and Level 2 Swim Ireland Teaching Aquatics qualifications and mat pilates instructor. She has held various roles over the years working as a swim instructor, lesson coordinator, pilates instructor and manager.  She grew up swimming in Galway Bay, enjoys her daily dip in the sea and loves to keep fit having completed various  triathlons and marathons over the years. She loves to teach young children and help them become confident in the water. Shelly will be in the office to take your calls, answer your questions, coordinate your sessions and start you on your journey with Luv2Swim.
